How to Handle Outgrowing Your Sorority Friendships (Without Guilt)

Sorority life is built on the idea of lifelong friendships. The women you met in Phi Mu were more than just friends—they were sisters. You shared unforgettable moments, late-night talks, and a deep connection that shaped your college experience. But as life evolves after graduation, sometimes those once-inseparable bonds begin to change. You may find that you’ve outgrown certain friendships or that they no longer serve you in the way they once did.

It’s a tough realization to come to, and the guilt that accompanies it can be even tougher. After all, these aren’t just any friendships—they were formed through a sisterhood that promised to last forever. But here’s the truth: It’s okay to outgrow friendships. Just because a relationship isn’t what it used to be doesn’t mean it wasn’t meaningful or that you’re abandoning the sisterhood. Friendships, like people, evolve. Sometimes, they grow stronger, and sometimes they naturally fade. Let’s talk about how to gracefully step back from those friendships that no longer fit your life while honoring the connection you once had.

Acknowledge That Outgrowing Friendships is Normal

As we move through different stages of life—starting careers, moving to new cities, forming new relationships—it’s natural for some friendships to shift. The people you were closest to during your collegiate years may no longer align with your current life, and that’s perfectly okay. It doesn’t mean those friendships weren’t valuable or that you’ve done something wrong. It simply means you’re growing.

Outgrowing friendships can feel especially complicated within the context of a sorority, where relationships are rooted in the shared experience of sisterhood. But it’s important to remember that growth is a natural part of life, and it’s something we all go through at different times.

How to Embrace the Change:

  • Accept that it’s normal for friendships to evolve or drift apart over time. This doesn’t diminish the significance of those relationships during your college years.
  • Remind yourself that growth doesn’t mean rejection. You’re not leaving someone behind—you’re simply moving in a direction that fits who you are now.

Let Go of the Guilt

One of the hardest parts of outgrowing a friendship is the guilt that comes with it. You might feel like you’re betraying your sisters or abandoning the bond that Phi Mu fosters. However, guilt shouldn’t keep you tied to relationships that no longer serve you or that have run their natural course.

It’s essential to release that guilt by reframing how you view the friendship. The fact that a friendship has shifted doesn’t erase the importance it had in your life. The memories you made and the bond you shared during your time in Phi Mu are still valuable, even if your relationship looks different now.

How to Let Go of Guilt:

  • Shift your perspective: Outgrowing a friendship doesn’t mean ending it with negativity—it means recognizing that both you and the friendship have changed.
  • Celebrate the role that person played in your life during a pivotal time, but don’t feel obligated to force a connection that no longer feels authentic.

Honor the Connection You Once Had

Even if you’ve outgrown certain sorority friendships, it’s important to honor the connection that was once there. These women played a significant role in your life, and just because your friendship has evolved doesn’t mean that role wasn’t meaningful.

You can still hold space for the good times and memories you shared while recognizing that it’s okay to grow in different directions. Rather than focusing on what’s changed, shift your focus to gratitude for the impact that friendship had on your life.

How to Honor Past Connections:

  • Reach out occasionally to express gratitude or reminisce about shared experiences. This keeps the bond respectful, even if it’s no longer as close.
  • Consider how that friendship shaped you—what did you learn from it, and how did it contribute to who you are today?

Navigating How to Step Back Gracefully

If you find yourself in a place where a friendship no longer serves you, stepping back can feel tricky—especially with the added emotional ties of sorority sisterhood. The key is to do so gracefully and respectfully. There’s no need for dramatic exits or confrontations. Sometimes, relationships naturally ebb, and it’s about allowing that to happen without resistance or guilt.

Stepping back gracefully might mean responding to invitations less frequently or reducing the amount of energy you invest in the friendship, while still maintaining a cordial and respectful tone.

How to Step Back Gracefully:

  • Ease off gradually: Instead of cutting ties abruptly, allow the relationship to slowly change by being less available for activities that don’t align with your current priorities.
  • Communicate with kindness. If a conversation is needed, explain that you’re focusing on other areas of your life and that you value the friendship for what it was.

Rekindling Friendships That Still Hold Potential

While some friendships may naturally fade, there are others that, although distant, might still hold potential for connection. Life gets busy, and sometimes you simply lose touch with sisters who you’d love to reconnect with but haven’t found the time.

If you feel a friendship still has room to grow, take the initiative to reach out and rekindle it. It may be that distance or circumstances created the gap, and now’s the perfect time to bridge it.

How to Rekindle Faded Friendships:

  • Reach out with a genuine message. A simple, “Hey, I’ve been thinking about you and would love to catch up,” can go a long way in re-establishing the connection.
  • Set up low-pressure meetups—whether that’s grabbing coffee, attending an alumnae event together, or catching up over the phone. Rekindling a friendship doesn’t have to be complicated.

Recognize That Sisterhood Evolves, Just Like Friendships Do

Sisterhood in Phi Mu is rooted in shared values of love, honor, and truth, but the way we experience those values can change over time. Outgrowing a friendship doesn’t mean you’ve lost your sisterhood—it just means that your relationships are evolving along with you. Sisterhood isn’t about being best friends with everyone forever; it’s about supporting each other’s growth, whether that’s side by side or from afar.

Letting go of certain friendships or stepping back from them doesn’t make you any less a part of Phi Mu’s sisterhood. The bonds of love and respect that Phi Mu fosters remain, even as friendships shift.

How to Embrace the Evolving Sisterhood:

  • Remind yourself that Phi Mu is a lifelong sisterhood—even if your relationships change, the support and connection of the larger sisterhood remain.
  • Allow your friendships within Phi Mu to evolve naturally, knowing that the core of sisterhood is about mutual respect and love, not constant closeness.

Growth Doesn’t Mean Goodbye

Outgrowing sorority friendships can feel complicated, but it’s a natural part of life’s journey. As you grow and evolve, so will your relationships, and that’s not something to feel guilty about. Letting go of friendships that no longer serve you—or stepping back from relationships that have naturally drifted—allows you to make space for new connections, opportunities, and personal growth.

Remember, growth doesn’t mean goodbye. You can still honor the friendships that shaped you during your time in Phi Mu while embracing the reality that life moves forward. Sisterhood remains, even as friendships change—and sometimes, those connections can be rekindled in unexpected ways.

Give yourself permission to evolve, let go of guilt, and trust that your journey, and your sisterhood, will continue to unfold in ways that support your growth.

Handling When Your Collegiate Chapter Closes: Staying Connected to Phi Mu

For many of us, our collegiate chapter was more than just a place—it was home. The place where we built lifelong friendships, developed leadership skills, and experienced the true meaning of sisterhood. So, when your chapter closes—whether due to low membership, campus decisions, or other circumstances—it can feel devastating. It might even feel like a piece of your identity as a Phi Mu has been lost.

But here’s the truth: The closing of your chapter doesn’t mean the end of your Phi Mu journey. Your sisterhood is far bigger than a single chapter, and your identity as a Phi Mu is lifelong, no matter what happens to your collegiate chapter. It’s important to recognize that even though this part of your journey has ended, your connection to Phi Mu doesn’t have to disappear. Let’s talk about how to process the emotions of losing your chapter, how to stay connected, and how to keep Phi Mu close to your heart, even without a physical chapter to return to.

Allow Yourself to Grieve the Loss

Losing your collegiate chapter can feel like losing a piece of yourself. It’s not just about the physical space—it’s about the memories, the friendships, and the identity that came with being part of something special. It’s natural to feel sadness, anger, or confusion when your chapter closes, and it’s important to let yourself grieve that loss.

Grief can come in many forms, whether it’s missing the camaraderie of chapter life, feeling a sense of disappointment over how things ended, or simply mourning the fact that future generations of women on your campus won’t get to experience your chapter. These feelings are valid, and it’s okay to take the time to process them.

How to Embrace the Grieving Process:

  • Acknowledge your emotions—it’s okay to feel sad, angry, or confused. Let yourself process the loss without judgment.
  • Reach out to your Phi Mu sisters who are experiencing the same loss. Talking about the chapter’s closure and sharing memories can be a helpful way to heal together.

Remember That You’re Still a Phi Mu—Always

Even though your chapter has closed, your status as a Phi Mu will never change. Phi Mu is for life, and the values, friendships, and experiences that shaped you remain a part of who you are. Whether your chapter is active or not, you are still part of a national sisterhood that spans generations and locations.

The closing of a chapter doesn’t erase the bonds you formed, the lessons you learned, or the love, honor, and truth that Phi Mu represents. You are—and will always be—a Phi Mu.

How to Embrace Your Lifelong Membership:

  • Reconnect with Phi Mu’s values—love, honor, and truth are the foundation of our sisterhood. Reflect on how these values still guide your life today.
  • Remind yourself that Phi Mu is bigger than one chapter—you’re part of a much larger sisterhood that extends far beyond your college experience.

Stay Connected Through the National Network

When your collegiate chapter closes, it can feel like you’ve lost your direct link to Phi Mu. But the beauty of our organization is that it’s nationwide and full of alumnae chapters, events, and ways to stay involved. Even if your collegiate chapter is no longer active, you can still stay connected to the sisterhood through Phi Mu’s broader network.

From joining a local alumnae chapter to attending national conventions or supporting Phi Mu Foundation, there are plenty of ways to continue your involvement and strengthen your bond with Phi Mu. Many alumnae find that getting involved in a new way helps them maintain a sense of connection and purpose, even when their collegiate chapter is no longer part of the equation.

How to Stay Connected:

  • Join an alumnae chapter in your area to meet other Phi Mu sisters and stay engaged with the sisterhood.
  • Attend national events like Phi Mu Convention, where you can reconnect with sisters from across the country and celebrate our shared values.
  • Stay involved with Phi Mu Foundation or volunteer with the Fraternity to stay connected to sisters all over the country.

Reconnect with Sisters on Your Own Terms

Just because your chapter has closed doesn’t mean the relationships you built during your collegiate years are lost. Now is the time to take the initiative to reconnect with your sisters on your own terms. Whether it’s setting up reunions, creating group chats, or organizing virtual meetups, you can still nurture the friendships that Phi Mu gave you—regardless of whether your chapter is active.

Even if you’ve lost touch with some sisters over the years, the shared bond of Phi Mu makes it easy to pick up where you left off. Sometimes, a simple text or social media message is all it takes to rekindle those connections and remind yourself of the lifelong relationships you’ve built.

How to Reconnect with Sisters:

  • Set up yearly reunions or virtual hangouts with your closest sisters to keep the spirit of your chapter alive.
  • Reach out to sisters you’ve lost touch with—sometimes, a quick message or call can reignite friendships and remind you that Phi Mu is always a part of your life.

Find New Ways to Honor Your Chapter’s Legacy

Even though your chapter is no longer active, its legacy lives on through the women who were part of it—including you. You carry the values, traditions, and memories of your chapter with you, and there are ways to honor that legacy even after the chapter’s doors have closed.

Consider finding ways to keep your chapter’s memory alive. Whether it’s setting up an annual service project with your fellow alumnae sisters, or even something as simple as continuing to wear your Phi Mu letters, there are many ways to ensure that your chapter’s impact is never forgotten.

How to Honor Your Chapter’s Legacy:

  • Create an annual philanthropy or service project with your alumnae sisters to continue the work your chapter started.
  • Continue to wear your Phi Mu letters with pride as a reminder of the sisterhood that shaped you.

Focus on What Phi Mu Gave You—And Still Gives You

It’s easy to focus on the loss when a chapter closes, but it’s just as important to remember all that Phi Mu has given you. The friendships, leadership skills, and values that shaped you during your collegiate years are still very much a part of who you are today. Those experiences didn’t end when the chapter closed—they live on through you.

Phi Mu is more than just a physical chapter—it’s a set of values and a sisterhood that continues to grow with you throughout your life. Reflect on what Phi Mu gave you during your time in college and how those gifts continue to serve you now.

How to Focus on Phi Mu’s Ongoing Impact:

  • Reflect on the skills and values you gained through Phi Mu and how they’ve helped you in your personal and professional life.
  • Celebrate the lifelong friendships that Phi Mu gave you and the ways those relationships have supported you beyond college.

Phi Mu is Bigger Than One Chapter

When your collegiate chapter closes, it can feel like a profound loss. But remember, Phi Mu is so much bigger than one chapter. The sisterhood you were part of, the values you carry, and the friendships you built don’t end when the chapter doors close—they continue with you for the rest of your life.

By reconnecting with the larger Phi Mu network, staying involved in ways that feel meaningful to you, and honoring the legacy of your chapter, you can keep the spirit of Phi Mu alive in your heart. You are, and always will be, a Phi Mu sister. And no matter where life takes you, the bond of love, honor, and truth will always be there to guide you.

Life after college is full of exciting—and sometimes overwhelming—transitions. From starting new jobs, moving to new cities, getting married, or even navigating tougher experiences like career changes, breakups, or personal struggles, these moments often leave us feeling unsure or even isolated.

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to face these changes alone. As a Phi Mu alumna, you are part of a lifelong sisterhood that can offer support, encouragement, and connection through life’s biggest moments, both the joyful and the challenging. No matter where you are on your journey, your Phi Mu sisters are there for you, ready to walk alongside you through every transition.

Let’s explore how you can lean on your Phi Mu sisterhood during some of life’s major transitions and how your sisters can continue to be a source of strength, no matter what comes your way.

Moving to a New City: Finding Your Phi Mu Community

Moving to a new city can be both exciting and intimidating. Whether it’s for a job, graduate school, or simply a new adventure, leaving behind your familiar support system can leave you feeling disconnected. The good news? Phi Mu’s alumnae network is nationwide. Wherever you move, chances are there’s a Phi Mu alumnae chapter or group nearby, waiting to welcome you.

Alumnae chapters are a great way to meet new people, build friendships, and create a new support network, even if you’re far from home. These sisters understand what it means to be part of the Phi Mu community, and they’re ready to help you feel at home in your new city.

How to Lean on Your Sisters in a New City:

  • Join a local alumnae chapter to meet new people and get involved in events that can help you build your network in the area.
  • Reach out to Phi Mu alumnae in your city through social media or Phi Mu’s alumnae Facebook Group—you might be surprised by how many sisters live nearby.
  • If there’s no alumnae chapter in your city, consider starting one! You’d be surprised how many sisters might be looking for the same connection.

Career Changes: Turning to Phi Mu for Mentorship and Guidance

Starting a new job, changing career paths, or even facing unexpected layoffs can be overwhelming. The good news is, you have a network of Phi Mu sisters who are professionals in all industries, many of whom have been through similar experiences. Your Phi Mu alumnae network is filled with women who can offer career advice, mentorship, and guidance during these transitions.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to Phi Mu alumnae who are already established in your field or who can connect you with opportunities and advice. Mentorship is a key part of the Phi Mu experience, and many sisters are eager to support you in your career journey, whether it’s offering resume advice, connecting you with job opportunities, or simply being there to listen.

How to Lean on Your Sisters During Career Transitions:

  • Reach out to your alumnae network to find Phi Mu mentors in your field. You may find someone in your local Facebook Group or even the National Facebook Group that can help.
  • Use LinkedIn to connect with Phi Mu sisters in your industry or field—don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for advice or guidance.
  • Attend Phi Mu national conventions or alumnae events focused on professional development to expand your network and career opportunities.

Navigating Personal Challenges: Relying on Your Sisters for Emotional Support

Life isn’t always smooth, and we all face personal challenges—whether it’s going through a breakup, dealing with family issues, or experiencing a health crisis. During these tough times, it’s easy to feel isolated or like you have to handle it all alone. But one of the greatest gifts of sisterhood is having a support system you can turn to in moments of vulnerability.

Your Phi Mu sisters are more than friends—they’re a network of women who genuinely care about your well-being. Whether it’s sending a text to check in, offering a listening ear, or even just being there to remind you that you’re not alone, your sisters are ready to support you in whatever way you need.

How to Lean on Your Sisters During Tough Times:

  • Don’t be afraid to reach out to your Phi Mu sisters when you need someone to talk to—whether it’s an old collegiate friend or an alumna you’ve recently connected with.
  • Share what’s going on with your alumnae chapter—many women have been through similar challenges and can offer empathy, advice, or support.
  • Lean into the values of love, honor, and truth—the foundation of Phi Mu’s sisterhood—to help guide you through difficult moments.

Celebrating Life’s Joys: Sharing the Good Moments with Your Sisters

Sisterhood isn’t just about support during the tough times—it’s also about celebrating the joys and milestones. Whether it’s a wedding, a new baby, a promotion, or an exciting move, your Phi Mu sisters are there to cheer you on. Celebrating these moments together strengthens your bonds and reminds you that sisterhood is about sharing both the highs and lows of life.

Even if you’ve drifted apart from your sisters or haven’t stayed as connected as you’d like, life’s happy moments are the perfect excuse to reach out and reignite your connection.

How to Celebrate Life’s Milestones with Your Sisters:

  • Invite your Phi Mu sisters to major life events, like weddings, baby showers, or celebrations—you might be surprised by how eager they are to reconnect.
  • Share your accomplishments and milestones on your chapter’s alumnae group page or through social media to celebrate with the broader Phi Mu community.
  • Create new traditions with your alumnae sisters to celebrate each other’s wins—whether it’s a yearly reunion or small get-togethers.

Phi Mu Sisterhood is Your Anchor in Life’s Transitions

No matter where life takes you—whether it’s a new job, a new city, or personal challenges—the sisterhood of Phi Mu is always there to anchor you. Leaning on your sisters during life’s transitions can provide you with the support, encouragement, and connection you need to navigate the changes ahead. Phi Mu’s bond is for life, and your sisters are always ready to walk with you through whatever comes next.

How to Support Your Collegiate Chapter as an Alumna: Staying Involved from a Distance

One of the joys of being a Phi Mu alumna is watching the new generations of sisters grow and thrive. But sometimes, staying involved with your collegiate chapter can be a challenge—especially if you’ve moved away or have a busy schedule that makes attending events difficult. Even if you’re no longer living near campus or don’t have time to be as hands-on as you’d like, there are still plenty of ways to support your collegiate chapter from a distance and continue your connection to the sisterhood.

Here are some ways to stay engaged with your collegiate chapter—whether you live across the country or just have too much on your plate to attend regular events.

Stay Engaged Through Virtual Events

Thanks to technology, staying connected from afar has never been easier. Some collegiate chapters may host virtual events, allowing alumnae to participate in chapter life no matter where they are. Whether it’s a virtual philanthropy event, a Zoom reunion, or an online sisterhood celebration, these events offer a way for alumnae to stay engaged without needing to be physically present.

Virtual events also provide an opportunity to share your wisdom and experiences with current members. You can participate in career panels, give advice, or simply show your support during chapter events, all from the comfort of your own home.

How to Participate Virtually:

  • Ask your collegiate chapter if they’re hosting virtual events you can attend. From Bid Day celebrations to philanthropy fundraisers, there are many ways to stay involved online.
  • Offer to speak at a chapter meeting virtually or participate in a career panel to share your experience and advice with the younger sisters.

Support Your Chapter Financially

Even if you can’t be there in person, one of the most impactful ways to support your collegiate chapter is through financial contributions. Collegiate chapters often rely on donations to fund events, philanthropy efforts, and chapter improvements. As an alumna, your financial support—whether it’s a small contribution or a larger gift—can help ensure that future Phi Mu sisters have the same incredible experience you did.

Many alumnae also choose to donate to Phi Mu Foundation, which supports both collegiate and alumnae initiatives across the country.

How to Support Financially:

  • Consider donating directly to your collegiate chapter to support specific projects or philanthropies.
  • If you’d like to make a broader impact, contribute to Phi Mu Foundation to support collegiate chapters across the country and help fund scholarships, leadership programs, and philanthropy efforts.

Be a Mentor to Current Collegiate Members

One of the most valuable things you can offer your collegiate chapter is mentorship. Your experience as a Phi Mu alumna is an incredible resource for the younger generation. Even from a distance, you can make a lasting impact by mentoring sisters and helping them navigate college life.

One of the best ways for mentorship is by joining your collegiate chapter’s advisory board. You may want to check with your collegiate chapter to see if there are open positions or ones that allow you to participate virtually if you’ve moved away.

How to Offer Mentorship:

  • Let your collegiate chapter know you’re available to join an advisory board—and see if they'll allow virtual advisers.
  • Reach out to younger sisters you know who might be interested in learning from your experiences, especially in areas like career development or leadership.

Attend Special Events and Reunions

While it might not be possible to attend regular chapter events, make it a goal to show up for special events or reunions when you can. Phi Mu’s big events—like Bid Day, Homecoming, or initiation—are not only fun but are key moments when your presence as an alumna can make a big difference. These events provide a chance to reconnect with your chapter and show the current members that their alumnae are still actively supporting them.

If you can’t attend in person, send a letter of support to the current members.

How to Participate in Special Events:

  • Plan to attend major chapter events like Homecoming, Bid Day, or alumnae reunions, even if it’s just once a year.
  • If you can’t be there in person, send a letter of encouragement or a message of congratulations to the chapter.

Stay Connected Through Social Media

One of the easiest ways to stay connected to your collegiate chapter is by following their activities on social media. Most chapters have Instagram, TikTok or Facebook accounts where they post updates, photos from events, and highlights from chapter life. By liking, commenting, and sharing their posts, you can show your support from wherever you are.

You can also use social media to stay in touch with sisters, both old and new, and keep up with what’s happening in their lives. Social media provides a low-pressure way to stay engaged and feel connected, even if you can’t be there in person.

How to Stay Connected on Social Media:

  • Follow your chapter’s social media accounts to keep up with events, updates, and celebrations.
  • Engage by liking and commenting on posts to show your support and stay visible in the chapter’s community.

You Can Still Make an Impact from Afar

Supporting your collegiate chapter from a distance may seem challenging, but there are countless ways to stay engaged and make a positive impact—whether through virtual events, mentorship, financial contributions, or simply staying connected via social media. Your presence as an alumna matters, and even if you can’t be physically present, your support and guidance can help shape the next generation of Phi Mu sisters.

Remember: No matter where life takes you, your sisterhood remains. Stay connected, stay involved, and continue to make a difference in the lives of Phi Mu sisters, no matter how far away you are.

The announcement came directly from the President of Phi Mu Foundation, Janeen Judah. In an effort to bring together Phi Mu sisters from all walks of life, from collegiate members to alumnae, the book club aims to provide a space for meaningful and insightful discussions on books centered around professional development and leadership.

Signing up for the club is simple. Prospective members can visit the Professional Book Club Guru website to join this exciting new initiative. The club isn't just an opportunity to learn and grow professionally; it promises a professionally facilitated and managed experience, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable journey for all members.

For the summer season, two powerful books have been chosen to inaugurate the book club. The first, Bored and Brilliant by Manoush Zomorodi, explores the concept of unplugging from our digital lives to allow for more creative thinking. This bestseller is an excellent choice for the summer months, where many find they have a bit more unstructured time.

The second book, starting in late July or early August, is Dare to Lead by Dr. Brené Brown, a professor at the University of Houston. Brown, known for her impactful TED Talks and bestsellers, offers an exploration of bold and fearless leadership.

Once the club is up and running, the community will be given the chance to vote on subsequent books. However, the focus will remain on the realms of professional development and leadership, echoing the aims of the club.

It’s refreshing to see Phi Mu returning to its roots as a literary society, fostering learning, growth, and fellowship amongst its members. As we embark on this new journey of collective learning, we invite all of you to join the book club this summer. It's more than just reading; it's about engaging, learning, growing, and above all, continuing the Phi Mu tradition of love for knowledge and shared intellectual exploration.

Come, let's read together, and rekindle the spirit of the Philomathean Society.

Embracing the Phi Mu Journey: Staying Connected as an Alumna

Whether you’ve recently graduated or you’ve been away for some time, there is never a bad time to get involved with Phi Mu as an alumna. The journey doesn’t end at graduation; it continues with the lifelong connections and opportunities that Phi Mu offers.

Recently Emily Thornton, National Alumnae Engagement Coordinator, and Emily Gilbert, Director of Alumnae Engagement, led an Ask a Sister event that discussed the various ways you can remain connected to Phi Mu and make a meaningful impact as an alumna.

First Steps

Update myPhiMu

Ensure that you’ve updated your contact information, including a non-school email address, mailing address, and cell phone number in myPhiMu. By keeping this information current, you enable Phi Mu to stay connected with you, allowing you to be involved in the years to come.

Follow Phi Mu on Social Platforms

Connect with Phi Mu on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other platforms. By following and engaging with Phi Mu’s posts, you not only stay updated on fraternity news, but also help promote our sisterhood to others.

Research the Alumnae Chapter in Your Area

Discover and connect with local alumnae chapters by utilizing online resources or reaching out to the Phi Mu Alumnae Facebook Group or alumnae@phimu.org. If no chapter exists in your area, consider starting a new chapter with the help of Headquarters.

How to Stay Involved as an Alumna

Phi Mu offers various avenues for alumnae involvement, ensuring that there’s a perfect fit for every sister. Here are some options:

In a Group

If you prefer a group setting, join your local alumnae chapter, a chapter association, or a panhellenic group in your area. Alumnae chapters, supported by Phi Mu Headquarters, bring together sisters from different chapters within a region. Chapter associations are comprised of alumnae from specific collegiate chapters, often offering virtual events.

As an Individual

If group settings aren’t your preference, consider volunteering with a collegiate chapter or even with Phi Mu at the national level. Collegiate chapters often seek eager alumnae to join their advisory boards, even in virtual capacities. National volunteer positions are appointed in odd-numbered years, but there may still be opportunities to contribute. Reach out to info@phimu.org if you’re interested in volunteering.

Join Forever Faithful and Give Back via Phi Mu Foundation

By joining the Forever Faithful alumnae dues program, you can provide ongoing support to Phi Mu. With an annual contribution of $30, you can help fund fraternity programs, resources, and operations. You can pay your Forever Faithful dues through myPhiMu.

Additionally, you have the opportunity to participate in Phi Mu Foundation’s giving programs. By selecting a giving program that resonates with you, you can automatically contribute a set amount monthly, providing vital support to your sisterhood. Visit the Phi Mu Foundation website to learn more about the available giving programs.

The bonds forged during those transformative years remain unbreakable, connecting you to a lifelong sisterhood that extends beyond the college days. As an alumna, you have the freedom to shape your involvement with Phi Mu in a way that best fits your current life.

Whether it's joining a local alumnae group to foster new connections, embarking on individual endeavors that reflect your personal passions, or making a meaningful impact through philanthropy via the Phi Mu Foundation, there are countless avenues for you to contribute and stay connected.

The beauty of being an alumna is that you have the power to embrace the spirit of Phi Mu in a way that resonates with your own journey, continuing to grow and thrive while uplifting others along the way. Home awaits you, dear sister, in every path you choose to walk as a cherished member of the Phi Mu sisterhood.

Phi Mu Blooms at 2023 Indiana Peony Festival

Phi Mu Indy had a blast attending the 3rd annual Peony Festival in Seminary Park in Noblesville, IN on May 20th, 2023.

The Indiana Peony Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization designed to inspire residents in Indiana to celebrate the state flower, add more peonies across Noblesville through beautification projects, and promote Hamilton County during the month of May not only for peony season but the Indianapolis 500 as well.

We even learned that there is an Indiana Peony Trail, sponsored by Duke Energy, that planted over 1,000 peony plants between Winter 2022 and Spring 2023.

With over 70 different vendors across Seminary Park, our sisters found plenty of opportunities for photos, amazing crafts from vendors, and some great food from local eateries in the area.

Sisters began by meeting at the front entrance when the event started and we quickly realized this was going to be a packed event!

There were people coming from every which way and lines at all of the flower and food stands.

But there were so many different vendors with lots of artwork, crafts, and more to see. Many of which celebrated the peony.

Sister Erica Reitz purchased this beautiful painting of a blue and white vase with pink peonies in it from the 2023 Indiana Peony Festival.

There were also areas all over the park for people to take photos. Our sister Marisa Eikenberry (Vice President and Secretary), found this cute pink Volkswagen Beetle with peonies all over it.

Sisters Erica Reitz and Courtney Vecheck managed to find a photo booth with a cute table right in front of it too.

I mean, who could ask for better photos when you have the opportunity to wear a flower crown?

Erica and Courtney took some cute photos in this photo booth provided by The Magnolia Rose.

There was even this adorable bicycle that was covered in flowers! As well as a Volkswagen van. (Who knew Volkswagens and peonies went so well together?)

This pink bicycle was absolutely covered in flowers. So many people took some cute photos with it.

We were certainly feeling the flower power with this cute peace sign in front of this van!

All in all, it was a beautiful day to celebrate peony season, the month of May, and our Phi Mu sisterhood. Thank you to the sisters that came to the event, and we hope to see you at our upcoming June event where we'll be attending the Boy Band Review concert at Mallow Run.

If you'd like to attend fun events like this one with the Indianapolis Phi Mu Alumnae chapter, we'd love for you to join us
