To Be to Others What We Would They Be to Us: Leading with Empathy in Alumnae Life

As Phi Mu sisters, we hold the words of our Creed close to our hearts long after our college years. One of the most timeless lines of the Phi Mu Creed—"To be to others what we would they be to us"—reminds us of the importance of treating others with kindness, empathy, and respect. This golden rule of sisterhood extends beyond our collegiate experience, offering us a guide on how to navigate relationships, lead with compassion, and create meaningful connections throughout alumnae life.

In a world that can often feel fast-paced and disconnected, leading with empathy is more important than ever. Here’s how you can continue to live out this part of the Creed as a Phi Mu alumna and inspire others to do the same.

Practice Active Listening

Empathy starts with truly listening to those around us. Whether you’re catching up with an old Phi Mu sister, mentoring a younger woman in your alumnae chapter, or having a heart-to-heart with a coworker, give the gift of your full attention. Active listening means being present in the moment, asking thoughtful questions, and showing genuine interest in what the other person has to say. When we listen with an open heart, we foster deeper connections and show others that we care.

In alumnae life, this can mean taking time to understand the needs of your chapter, offering support to sisters facing challenges, or simply lending a compassionate ear when someone needs it.  By being fully present, you not only strengthen your relationships but also inspire others to do the same.

Offer Support Without Judgment

As Phi Mu sisters, we share a bond that transcends life’s ups and downs. Whether it's in your alumnae chapter or in your professional and personal circles, leading with empathy means offering support without judgment. Life after college can bring new challenges—career struggles, family pressures, or personal growth hurdles—and sometimes, all someone needs is a sister who understands without offering unsolicited advice or criticism.

Embodying the Creed in this way means offering a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on when sisters need it most. Be the person who shows compassion and encourages others to be kind to themselves. After all, we never truly know what someone else is going through, but we can always be there to lift them up.

Build a Welcoming Alumnae Community

One of the best ways to lead with empathy is to ensure that your alumnae chapter is an inclusive and welcoming space for all Phi Mu sisters. Whether a sister just moved to your city or is reconnecting with Phi Mu after many years away, make sure she feels welcomed and valued. This can be as simple as extending a warm invitation to chapter events, checking in on her during difficult times, or being genuinely interested in her story.

Empathy in action means creating an environment where all sisters feel like they belong. It’s about remembering that our shared values of love, honor, and truth are what unite us and that every sister—no matter where she is in life—deserves to feel supported and appreciated.

Extend Empathy to the Workplace

Phi Mu values don’t just apply to our sisterhood—they’re universal principles that can transform the way we lead in our careers and communities. Leading with empathy in the workplace can have a profound impact, from creating a more positive work environment to improving relationships with coworkers and clients.

Being an empathetic leader means taking time to understand the perspectives of others, showing patience, and offering encouragement. Whether you’re managing a team or collaborating with others, when you approach your work with empathy, you foster trust and loyalty. By practicing Phi Mu’s golden rule in the workplace, you can create an environment where others feel respected and valued, ultimately leading to greater success for everyone.

Pay It Forward Through Mentorship

"To be to others what we would they be to us" is a perfect mantra for mentorship. Think about the women who have supported and guided you throughout your life—whether it was a Phi Mu sister, a professor, or a colleague—and how their encouragement helped shape your path. Now, as an alumna, it’s your turn to pay it forward by mentoring younger sisters.

Mentorship doesn’t have to be formal; it can be as simple as offering career advice, helping a younger sister navigate a new city, or being there to listen as she faces new challenges. Leading with empathy as a mentor means meeting her where she is, offering guidance without imposing, and celebrating her successes. This is one of the most fulfilling ways to live out Phi Mu’s Creed after college while making a lasting impact on the next generation of sisters.

Spread Kindness Through Everyday Actions

Sometimes, the most profound expressions of empathy happen in the smallest moments. Whether it’s sending a thoughtful note to a sister, offering a compliment to someone who needs it, or doing something kind for someone without expecting anything in return, these everyday acts of empathy embody the heart of our Creed.

In a busy world, these little gestures are often what people remember most. By consistently treating others with the care and kindness you’d want for yourself, you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around you.

The Phi Mu Creed serves as a timeless reminder of the values that guide our sisterhood, and empathy is at the core of living out our Creed in everyday life. As alumnae, we have the unique opportunity to lead by example, showing others how to embody Phi Mu’s golden rule through compassionate actions, meaningful connections, and service to others.

By continuing to "be to others what we would they be to us," we strengthen not only our bonds of sisterhood but also the communities we touch through our leadership and kindness.

Let’s continue to lift each other up, Phi Mu sisters, and inspire others with our empathy and love!

To Lend to Those Less Fortunate a Helping Hand: Embracing Phi Mu’s Spirit of Service After College

One of the most cherished lines of the Phi Mu Creed is the call "to lend to those less fortunate a helping hand." During our collegiate years, we actively lived this value through our philanthropy efforts, from organizing fundraising events for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to participating in service projects on campus and in our communities. But just because we’ve graduated doesn’t mean our commitment to service has to end.

As alumnae, we have the opportunity—and the responsibility—to continue living out Phi Mu’s mission of service in our post-college lives. Whether it's through direct action, community leadership, or simply supporting causes close to our hearts, there are countless ways to keep that spirit of giving alive. Here are a few meaningful ways you can "lend a helping hand" after graduation, no matter where life has taken you.

Stay Involved with Phi Mu Philanthropy

One of the easiest ways to continue your legacy of service is by supporting the causes Phi Mu has championed for decades, especially Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Many alumnae chapters organize events, donation drives, or volunteer opportunities to benefit this important organization, so joining a local chapter is a great way to stay involved! You can also directly support the Phi Mu Foundation, which offers financial aid, scholarships, and leadership development to sisters across the country.

Even if there isn’t a nearby alumnae chapter, you can still contribute to our national philanthropy through personal donations, participating in national Phi Mu fundraising events, or volunteering at your local children’s hospital. Every small effort counts toward making a difference in the lives of children and families in need.

Find Local Volunteer Opportunities

Phi Mu’s commitment to service extends beyond just our national philanthropic efforts. Take the values you learned in Phi Mu and apply them to causes close to your heart in your local community. Whether it’s mentoring young women, organizing a food drive, or supporting local shelters, there are plenty of ways to "lend a hand" in your own city or town.

Many alumnae find fulfillment in volunteering with organizations that align with Phi Mu’s values of love, honor, and truth. Plus, volunteering is an excellent way to meet like-minded individuals and even connect with other Phi Mu sisters you may not have met yet! 🌟

Support Phi Mu Foundation and Scholarships

A lesser-known but incredibly impactful way to continue supporting your sisters after college is by contributing to the Phi Mu Foundation. The Foundation funds scholarships, leadership programs, and emergency grants for Phi Mu members, ensuring that every sister has the resources to succeed both personally and professionally.

By donating to the Foundation, you’re not only helping current collegiate sisters—you’re also fostering the next generation of leaders and ensuring that they have the opportunities to grow and thrive. Consider making a monthly or yearly donation, or even attending a Phi Mu Foundation event to reconnect with sisters while supporting the cause.

Start a Service Tradition in Your Alumnae Chapter

If you’re a member of (or looking to start) an alumnae chapter, make service a central part of your chapter’s mission. Whether it’s organizing a quarterly service project, participating in local philanthropy events, or simply hosting a holiday toy drive, there are so many ways to incorporate service into your alumnae chapter’s activities.

You can also collaborate with local collegiate chapters on joint service events, offering both mentorship and support to younger sisters while making an even greater impact on the community. These types of events build bonds not only within your alumnae chapter but across generations of Phi Mu sisters.

Embrace the Everyday Acts of Kindness

Living the value of "lending a helping hand" doesn’t always have to be through large, organized events. Sometimes, the most meaningful acts of service happen in everyday life. Offer help to a neighbor in need, check in on a sister going through a tough time, or use your professional skills to mentor a young woman entering your field.

Service can be as simple as showing kindness, listening, or offering support to someone less fortunate. By embodying this in our daily lives, we not only stay true to Phi Mu’s values but also make the world around us a little brighter, one small act at a time.

Continuing the Legacy of Service

As Phi Mu alumnae, we have the privilege of carrying on the legacy of service we learned during our collegiate years. By continuing to "lend a helping hand" in whatever ways we can, we honor the values of our sisterhood and bring positive change to our communities. Whether through philanthropy, volunteering, or everyday kindness, your actions make a lasting impact.

Remember, sisterhood and service go hand in hand—and Phi Mu will always be there to support you as you continue to serve those less fortunate.

Why Phi Mu Foundation Matters More Than Ever

Phi Mu has always been more than just an organization—it’s a lifelong sisterhood built on love, honor, and truth. This bond extends far beyond our collegiate years, and at the heart of our continued connection is the Phi Mu Foundation. As alumnae, we have a powerful opportunity to uplift our sisters in need and ensure the legacy of our sisterhood thrives for generations to come.

What Is Phi Mu Foundation?

Phi Mu Foundation is the philanthropic engine that fuels the success of our members, providing vital scholarships, leadership programs, and emergency grants. Whether it’s funding educational opportunities for collegiate and alumnae members or offering aid in times of natural disasters and financial hardship, the Foundation stands as a beacon of support.

But its impact doesn’t stop there. Phi Mu Foundation also plays a crucial role in preserving our rich history—a history that is not just about Phi Mu, but about women’s leadership and empowerment. As the second-oldest women’s fraternity, Phi Mu has shaped the lives of countless women for over 170 years, and the Foundation ensures that legacy endures.

The Power of Sisterhood

Sisterhood doesn’t end after graduation. It’s a connection that we carry with us in every stage of life. Through life’s triumphs and challenges, Phi Mu remains a constant source of support, encouragement, and belonging. The Phi Mu Foundation allows us, as alumnae, to give back to the sisterhood that shaped us and to support the next generation of Phi Mu women.

Whether through scholarships that help a sister complete her education, grants that provide relief during unexpected hardships, or leadership programs that cultivate future trailblazers, our contributions directly impact the lives of Phi Mus across the country.

The Need Has Never Been Greater

While the Foundation does incredible work, the demand for support far exceeds the available resources. Each year, the Foundation receives three times more scholarship applications than it can fund. That means talented, hardworking Phi Mus who are striving to further their education may have to walk away simply because funding isn’t available.

But we can change that. When we give, we ensure that more sisters have access to the resources they need.

Day of Giving: March 4, 2025

This year, Phi Mu Foundation’s Day of Giving holds even greater significance—it falls on Founders Day, March 4, 2025. What better way to honor our Founders and their vision of steadfast sisterhood than by ensuring our legacy of support continues?

On this special day, Phi Mus everywhere will come together to celebrate our sisterhood and contribute to the Foundation’s mission. Every donation—no matter the size—makes a lasting impact. Whether you’re able to give $5 or $500, your support fuels scholarships, leadership development, and emergency assistance for sisters in need.

How You Can Help

  • Mark Your Calendar for March 4, 2025 and plan to make a gift.
  • Spread the Word by sharing why the Foundation is important to you on social media.
  • Encourage Fellow Alumnae to participate—our impact grows when we give together.
  • Make a Lasting Commitment by setting up a recurring donation to sustain the Foundation’s work year-round.

Together, we can strengthen the bonds of our sisterhood and ensure that every Phi Mu has the opportunity to thrive. Will you join us in making a difference?

Why Your Tax-Deductible Gift to Phi Mu Foundation Matters

As Phi Mu sisters, we often hear about the importance of supporting Phi Mu Foundation. But sometimes, it’s not always clear just how big of an impact this nonprofit has on our sisterhood.

Phi Mu Foundation is more than just a fundraising organization—it’s the heart of our continued sisterhood, providing essential support to our members in times of need, empowering young women to achieve their academic dreams, and ensuring that our rich history is preserved for future generations.

When you give to Phi Mu Foundation, your gift is more than just a donation—it’s an investment in the future of our sisterhood.

Your Gift is Tax-Deductible

Unlike contributions to Phi Mu Fraternity, a 501(c)(7) social organization, donations to Phi Mu Foundation—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit—are tax-deductible. That means when you give, you not only help fund crucial programs, but you also receive a potential tax benefit. It’s a win-win for both you and Phi Mu!

This distinction is important because while the Fraternity supports programming and operations, Phi Mu Foundation ensures that financial assistance, scholarships, leadership training, and historical preservation continue to thrive.

You Help Sisters in Need

Each year, Phi Mu Foundation receives three times more scholarship applications than it has available funds. Without donor support, many deserving women might miss out on scholarships that could alleviate the burden of tuition, books, and fees.

But Phi Mu Foundation doesn’t just support education—it also provides direct financial relief to sisters in crisis through two important grant programs:

Leona Hughes Hughes Heart & Hand Fund

Provides financial assistance to collegiate and alumnae members in good standing who are experiencing financial distress due to natural disasters, medical events, or other emergencies. Grants from this fund are limited to basic necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, transportation, utilities, and medical care.

Betty Nell Wilkinson Emergency Fund

Provides financial relief specifically for educational expenses to members who are facing financial hardship due to divorce, natural disasters, medical events, or other dire circumstances. Grants from this fund can only be used for education-related expenses such as tuition, books, or other direct school costs.

Imagine a Phi Mu sister whose family has lost everything in a wildfire, or an alumna struggling to pay for school after an unexpected life event. Because of donors like you, we can step in and make a real difference in their lives.

You Invest in Future Leaders

Phi Mu is more than a sisterhood—it’s a launching pad for strong, capable women who go on to make waves in their communities, careers, and beyond.

Your gift helps fund transformative leadership programs that equip collegiate and alumnae members with the skills and confidence they need to succeed. Whether through officer training, networking events, or personal development opportunities, Phi Mu Foundation plays a vital role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

If you’ve ever attended Phi Mu Leadership Institute, Officer Academy, or any of our national leadership events, chances are you’ve benefited from the generosity of Phi Mu Foundation donors.

You Preserve Our Legacy

Since our founding in 1852, Phi Mu’s story is one of trailblazing women, steadfast values, and an unwavering commitment to Love, Honor, and Truth.

Phi Mu Foundation works tirelessly to ensure that our history remains alive—not just in scrapbooks or archives, but in the hearts and minds of every sister.

From maintaining historical records to preserving artifacts from our earliest days, the Foundation safeguards our legacy so that future generations of Phi Mus can continue to be inspired by the women who came before them.

Our Sisterhood Never Stops

No matter where life takes us, Phi Mu is always there. Whether we are new alumnae navigating the next chapter of our lives or seasoned professionals looking for ways to reconnect, Phi Mu Foundation is a constant thread that keeps our sisterhood strong.

Because of donors like you, Phi Mu Foundation is able to provide scholarships, assist sisters in crisis, support leadership programs, and preserve our rich history.

But the need is greater than ever. And that’s where you come in.

Join Us for Day of Giving on March 4, 2025!

This year, Phi Mu Foundation’s Day of Giving falls on Founders Day, March 4, 2025—a perfect reminder that our sisterhood has been thriving for over 170 years because of the love and support we give one another.

On this day, Phi Mu sisters from around the world will unite to make an impact—whether through small contributions or significant gifts, every donation adds up to something incredible.

Here’s how you can make a difference:

  • Make a gift! Even a small donation can create a ripple effect of generosity and support.
  • Spread the word! Share why Phi Mu Foundation matters to you on social media, in your alumnae groups, or with your collegiate chapter.
  • Encourage others to give! Challenge your sisters to join you in giving back to Phi Mu.

Every gift, big or small, helps strengthen our sisterhood for generations to come.

đź’– Mark your calendar for March 4, 2025, and be part of something truly special!

You might be wondering—what exactly does the Phi Mu Foundation do with the donations it receives? The answer: a lot! Here’s a look at the Foundation’s core areas of impact:

Scholarships for Collegiate and Alumnae Sisters

One of the most significant ways the Phi Mu Foundation supports our sisterhood is by offering scholarships. Each year, the Foundation awards scholarships to both collegiate and alumnae sisters, helping them pursue higher education and achieve their academic goals. Whether it’s funding for undergraduate studies or financial assistance for graduate programs, these scholarships alleviate the financial burden for many sisters, allowing them to focus on their education.

Leadership Development Programs

The Foundation also plays a key role in providing leadership opportunities for collegiate and alumnae members. Programs like the Phi Mu Leadership Institute and Phi Mu Officer Academy are designed to build confidence, communication skills, and leadership abilities in our sisters. The Foundation funds these programs, ensuring that every Phi Mu woman has the chance to grow into a strong, capable leader—whether she’s leading her chapter or pursuing a leadership role in her career. They also support the Chapter Consultant Program which funds the leadership training and access to resources that these sisters need to ensure our collegiate chapters are running effectively.

Emergency Financial Assistance

Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes sisters face unexpected hardships like natural disasters, medical emergencies, or financial crises. Through the Leona Hughes Hughes Heart & Hand Fund and the Betty Nell Wilkinson Emergency Fund, the Foundation provides emergency assistance to Phi Mu sisters in need. These grants offer immediate, compassionate support during some of life’s most difficult moments, reminding sisters that they are never alone in times of struggle.

Preserving Phi Mu’s History and Heritage

Another important role of the Phi Mu Foundation is to preserve and celebrate our rich history. The Foundation ensures that the history of Phi Mu is maintained through archival projects, historical preservation, and so much more. This ensures that the legacy of our sisterhood is passed down to future generations, helping us remember where we came from and what Phi Mu stands for.

Too Busy or Too Far Removed? Why Alumnae Involvement Can Still Fit Your Life

Life after college can get busy. Between building a career, raising a family, and juggling all the demands of daily life, it’s easy to feel like you simply don’t have time for Phi Mu anymore. Or maybe it’s been years since you last connected with the sisterhood, and you feel too far removed from your Phi Mu days to re-engage.

But here’s the great news: alumnae involvement is flexible, supportive, and designed to fit into your life—whether you’re managing a packed schedule or just haven’t been involved in a while. Phi Mu alumnae life offers a wide range of ways to stay connected, from quick and casual engagements to deeper leadership roles, so you can engage in a way that works for you.

Here’s how Phi Mu can fit into your busy life, no matter how long it’s been since you’ve last been involved.

Casual Participation—No Pressure, No Commitment

One of the most common misconceptions about alumnae life is that it requires a huge time commitment. But the truth is, you can participate as much or as little as you want. Phi Mu alumnae chapters are all about flexibility. You can attend events when your schedule allows or engage online if in-person activities don’t fit into your life.

Drop into Casual Events: Many alumnae chapters host low-pressure, casual events like brunches, happy hours, or coffee meetups. These are great opportunities to reconnect with sisters without feeling like you’re committing to a long-term schedule.

Join a Virtual Gathering: Can’t make it to an event in person? Many chapters offer virtual meetups, book clubs, or online happy hours, making it easy to connect with sisters from the comfort of your own home.

There’s no need to attend every event or take on a leadership role right away—you can participate when and how it feels right for you.

Reconnect at Your Own Pace

If it’s been a while since you’ve been involved in Phi Mu, you might feel unsure about where to start. But know this: Phi Mu is always here, waiting to welcome you back. Whether you’ve been away for a few years or a few decades, there’s no pressure to jump in full force. You can reconnect with the sisterhood at your own pace, in ways that feel comfortable.

Start Small: If you’re feeling hesitant, start by attending one event or simply joining a local alumnae chapter’s social media group. You don’t have to go all-in right away. Even small steps—like reaching out to a sister you haven’t spoken to in years—can make a big difference.

Update Your Contact Information: Make sure your contact information is up to date so you can receive newsletters and invitations to events. This way, you’ll stay in the loop without feeling overwhelmed, and you’ll have the option to engage when it feels right.

A Built-In Network, Ready When You Are

One of the best things about Phi Mu is that it’s a lifelong network of support. Even if you’ve been disconnected for a while, your sisters are always here for you. Alumnae chapters are full of women from different backgrounds, ages, and stages of life, making them perfect places to find understanding, support, and friendship.

Networking Opportunities: Whether you’re looking for professional networking or just seeking advice from women who have been through similar life experiences, alumnae chapters are a great resource. They provide a built-in network of women who understand the demands of life after college.

Shared Values, Strong Connections: You’ll find that even if you haven’t been involved recently, the shared values of Phi Mu—love, honor, and truth—are still at the heart of alumnae life. These values form the foundation of lifelong friendships and connections, no matter where you are in life.

Philanthropy and Service on Your Terms

If you’re passionate about giving back but don’t have time for regular meetings or events, Phi Mu’s philanthropic efforts offer a great way to stay involved on your own terms. Supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and participating in local philanthropy efforts are meaningful ways to stay connected without requiring a major time commitment.

One-Time Volunteer Opportunities: Many alumnae chapters organize one-day philanthropy events, like a charity walk or fundraiser, where you can participate without committing to a long-term project. It’s a rewarding way to engage with the sisterhood and make a difference, even if your schedule is packed.

Donate Online: If time is tight, you can still support Phi Mu’s philanthropic efforts by making a donation to CMN or the Phi Mu Foundation. It’s a simple, yet powerful, way to stay involved and give back.

Virtual Engagement for Sisters on the Move

For alumnae who travel frequently, live far from a local chapter, or just prefer to engage online, Phi Mu offers virtual events and digital communities that allow you to stay connected no matter where you are. Whether you’re traveling for work, moving to a new city, or managing a packed family schedule, you can still enjoy the benefits of sisterhood from anywhere.

Alumnae Facebook Group: Phi Mu has an active Facebook group for alumnae where sisters can stay updated on events, share life updates, and offer support to one another. It’s a great way to engage when time is limited, without the need for in-person participation.

Phi Mu Grows With You

Your life may have changed since college—your career has taken off, you’ve started a family, or you’re pursuing new passions. But the beauty of Phi Mu is that it grows and changes with you. Alumnae life isn’t about reliving the past; it’s about building new connections, supporting one another, and staying rooted in the values that Phi Mu instilled in all of us.

There’s no “right” way to be involved. You don’t have to attend every event or hold a leadership position to be an active and valued member of the alumnae community. Your participation—whether big or small—matters, and Phi Mu will always be here when you’re ready.

If you’ve been feeling too busy or too far removed from Phi Mu, know that there’s always a place for you in the alumnae sisterhood. Whether you’re reconnecting for the first time in years or just trying to balance a busy schedule, Phi Mu alumnae life is designed to fit your life, no matter how full it may be.

So, take that first step—whether it’s attending a casual event, joining a virtual meeting, or simply updating your contact info. The sisterhood is waiting for you, whenever you’re ready to re-engage. 💗

Rekindling the Flame: How to Reignite Your Phi Mu Involvement at Any Stage of Life

Life after college can get busy, and it’s easy for alumnae to lose touch with Phi Mu as careers, families, and other responsibilities take priority. But the beauty of Phi Mu is that sisterhood is for life, and it’s never too late to reconnect. Whether it’s been a few years or a few decades since you last participated in a Phi Mu event, there are plenty of ways to reignite your involvement and experience the lifelong benefits of sisterhood. Here’s how you can rekindle your Phi Mu connection at any stage of life.

Reconnect with Your Local Alumnae Chapter

One of the easiest ways to get back into the rhythm of Phi Mu life is by joining or reconnecting with your local alumnae chapter. Alumnae chapters provide a welcoming environment where you can meet sisters in your area, participate in events, and build new friendships with women who share your values.

  • How to do it: Visit the Phi Mu website’s alumnae section to find a chapter near you. If you’ve recently moved or haven’t been involved for a while, reach out to the chapter leadership and introduce yourself—they’ll be excited to welcome you back. If there isn’t a chapter near you, consider starting one!
  • Why it matters: Reconnecting with a local alumnae chapter gives you the chance to renew your bonds with the sisterhood in a way that fits your schedule and lifestyle, helping you feel connected again.

Participate in Virtual Events

If attending in-person events isn’t possible due to location or a busy schedule, Phi Mu offers a variety of virtual events that make it easy to stay involved from anywhere. Whether it’s a virtual reunion, online philanthropy event, or a webinar on leadership and personal growth, there are plenty of ways to participate without leaving home.

  • How to do it: Follow your alumnae chapter’s social media or check the Phi Mu national website for virtual event offerings. From Zoom happy hours to leadership webinars, virtual events are designed to fit into your life no matter where you are.
  • Why it matters: Virtual events provide a convenient way to reconnect with sisters and participate in Phi Mu activities from anywhere in the world, making it easy to reignite your involvement.

Reconnect with Old Friends

Sometimes, all it takes to rekindle your Phi Mu involvement is reconnecting with the sisters you were close to during your collegiate years. Reaching out to old friends and planning a small gathering or even just a phone call can help reignite the bonds that made Phi Mu such an important part of your life.

  • How to do it: Send a message to your old Phi Mu friends through social media or organize a virtual or in-person catch-up. Whether you plan a mini-reunion or simply check in on how they’re doing, reconnecting with sisters you haven’t seen in a while can be a powerful reminder of the lifelong nature of Phi Mu sisterhood.
  • Why it matters: The friendships formed in Phi Mu are built to last. Reconnecting with those sisters can bring back the joy of sisterhood and inspire you to become more involved again.

Get Involved in Philanthropy

Phi Mu’s commitment to service is one of the core pillars of our sisterhood, and staying involved in philanthropy is a great way to rekindle your connection to Phi Mu. Participating in service projects or supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through donations or volunteer work helps you engage in the mission of Phi Mu while giving back to the community.

  • How to do it: Reach out to your alumnae chapter to see if they are organizing any philanthropy events or fundraisers. You can also visit a local CMN-affiliated hospital to see how you can volunteer or get involved in their efforts. Even small donations or virtual participation in fundraisers can help you feel connected.
  • Why it matters: Philanthropy is at the heart of Phi Mu’s values, and contributing to these efforts can remind you of the power of sisterhood while making a meaningful impact in the community.

Mentor Younger Sisters

One of the most rewarding ways to re-engage with Phi Mu is by mentoring collegiate members or younger alumnae. As an alumna, you have valuable experience and wisdom to share, and guiding younger sisters can deepen your connection to Phi Mu while giving back to the next generation of women in our fraternity.

  • How to do it: Reach out to your local collegiate chapter or alumnae chapter to inquire about joining the chapter's advisory board.
  • Why it matters: Mentorship is a meaningful way to stay connected to Phi Mu while making a lasting impact on a younger sister’s life. By giving back through mentorship, you help reinforce the values of Phi Mu and foster lifelong bonds.

Attend a National Event

Phi Mu’s national events, such as the biennial Phi Mu Convention or even local Founders’ Day celebrations, are perfect opportunities to reconnect with the sisterhood on a larger scale. These events bring together alumnae and collegiate members from across the country for a celebration of Phi Mu’s history, values, and future.

  • How to do it: Keep an eye on the Phi Mu national calendar and alumnae communications to find out when national events like Convention, leadership institutes, or Founders’ Day celebrations are taking place. Even if you can’t attend in person, many of these events offer virtual participation options.
  • Why it matters: National events provide an immersive experience that rekindles your love for Phi Mu and reminds you of the lifelong sisterhood you’re part of. It’s also a great way to meet new sisters and reconnect with the wider Phi Mu community.

Reconnect Through Social Media

Staying active on social media is an easy and low-pressure way to stay connected with Phi Mu. Follow Phi Mu’s national and local alumnae pages, interact with posts, and share your own Phi Mu memories to keep the sisterhood alive in your daily life.

  • How to do it: Follow Phi Mu on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn, and join any alumnae groups that are specific to your chapter or region. Engaging with posts, sharing stories, and staying updated on upcoming events or news helps you stay in the loop and feel connected even if you can’t participate in person.
  • Why it matters: Social media provides a way to stay involved at your own pace. Even simple interactions like commenting on a post or liking a photo keep you connected to the broader Phi Mu community.

Phi Mu sisterhood is lifelong, and it’s never too late to rekindle your involvement. Whether you reconnect through alumnae chapters, virtual events, philanthropy, or mentorship, there are countless ways to renew your bonds with the sisterhood and experience the joy and support of being a Phi Mu again. No matter where life has taken you, Phi Mu will always welcome you back with open arms.
